Located in a beautiful landscape in the Ronda La Vieja area some 25 minutes from El Guarda is the Doña Felisa winery, producing their wines under the name of “Chinchilla” the name of the parish.
The owners; Gema Alonso Araico and her husband Jose María Losantos Hernando and their daughters run the bodega as a real family business. They purchased the first plot of around 5 hectares in 1999 and do now own about 25.
The land is predominantly sandy but with some areas of limestone which, with its good drainage properties, makes it perfect for creating the region’s fabulous wines. The grape varieties cultivated are Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah.
At present the diverse wines of Chinchilla are the result of an exclusive and deeply studied “terroir” in order to obtain these high quality wines. The soil in each plot has been studied and planted with the vine variety which will give the best result. The winery also pays great attention to wine production. With an exhaustive control of the fruit quality from the vineyard through to the fermentation tanks..
The approach to winemaking is modern, employing the latest technological innovations, but is combined with the traditional methods and wisdom of experienced professionals.
