This is an unusual Gran Reserva wine. It bears the name but is not at all traditional in style. In the classic Gran Reserva the color is slightly brown with an orange rim, this one is ruby red, brilliant and clear.  And in the classic styled wines the fruit barely appeared, but as the fruit is the identity of the Luis Cañas wines, this one has lots of it despite of its 24 months in new oak casks and another 36 in the bottle. It is classical, yes, but much fresher with a lively colour and lots of flavor.

Tasting notes

95% Tempranillo, 5% Graciano. Age of vines: between 50 and 60 years. Handpicked and transported in boxes of max. 15 kg. Fermentation in wooden vats.

24 months in new oak casks and another 36 months in the bottle. Type of oak: 70% French, 30% American.

Deep bright black cherry  with ruby highlights

Considerable aromatic complexity thanks to careful production methods. At first sniff there is lots of fruit, then the fine spices, eucalyptus, anisettes, smoky oak follow through, and when left in the glass to breathe, it shows cigar box, coffee and fruit liqueur.

As always in Luis Cañas wines the focus is fruit. This one has an extremely round mouth feel, with no sharp edges, and no dry feeling in the mouth. It preserves the freshness of the fruit and simply invites you to have another glass. The wine is irresistible.
