This winery is owned by Juan Luis Cañas and is a homage to Angeles, his bellowed mother, who unfortunately passed away almost 20 years ago. She was a hardworking woman and inseparable from her husband and the Vinery of Luis Cañas. Amaren is “ the wine of the mother”(in Basque) and this exceptional wine bears her name, Ángeles, and is dedicated to her.

"The best way to pay homage to her has been to make a wine from grapes grown in plots which represent the essence of the Rioja Alavesa district", Says Luis.

Tasting notes

85% Tempranillo 15% Graciano.
Vineyards with an average age of 40 years.

Tempranillo and Graciano wine varieties have been processed and aged separately to preserve the fruit of Tempranillo and enhance the complexity of Graciano with its spicy qualities. Harvest of only 4500 kilos per hectare.

It has been aged 16 months in new casks. Type of oak: 50% French 50% American.

Bright and Intense color from good quality Tempranillo and Graciano grapes.

On the nose you notice the contribution of the 15% of the graciano grape, it is the one giving the spicy touch. The wine is full of elegant aromas where the bay leaf, rosemary, red mature fruits and cloves dominate.

This is not a wine of traditional Rioja style. it is a more modern style, with more focus on the fruit, including subtle nuances of the oak casks. You just want to keep on drinking this wine. It is expressive, fresh and very tasty. Full of touches of red berries and dark fruit such as blackberry. It is a wine for people who are looking for something a bit different.
