From Puglia in Italy’s deep south where it is hot with low rainfall. Soils are deep clay and much of the cultivation is still traditional, giving low yields and full bodied wines with ripe southern flavours. The days when southern wines were cheap and cheerful are long gone, now they are really good.

Tasting notes

100% Primitivo, an indigenous grape cultivated here for nearly 3,000 years. (Zinfandel is a clone of Primitivo).

The wine does not need ageing and is just stabilised in tank and aged briefly in bottle before sale.

Very deep bright red with hints of ruby.

Intense and generous with notes of real ripeness, red and black fruits, traces of spice and a herbal note.

Full bodied, smooth and firm with plenty of black fruit and an attractive trace of bitterness to balance and add length.
